Our immune system is the body’s natural defense against infectious organisms. We are continually surrounded by millions of bacteria, viruses and other germs, some are friendly but some have the potential to enter our body and cause us harm. Other threats such as stress, lack of sleep, alcohol, poor diet, smoking and lack of exercise can also weaken the immune system and leave us vulnerable to illness. About 75% of our immune system comes from the bacteria that live in our gut, so it’s important to maintain good bacteria and ensure that we get all the nutrients it needs to function well.
